St. Louis Cemetery No. 1 Guided Walking Tour
The Official Tour of St. Louis Cemetery No. 1 takes you thru the gates, on the winding paths between tombs. The only tour to visit the burial site of New Orleans’ most famous and historical figures, and to show you to the tombs of Voodoo Queen Marie Laveau, Homer Plessy, and more. Meander this noble and intimate setting with a small group, escorted by our specially trained tour guides – the best way to experience St. Louis Cemetery No. 1. Along our guided tour, intimate groups of no more than 20 patrons will be escorted along a path to the most prominent and historic landmarks of any New Orleans cemetery. Up Close views of the magnificently built tombs, completely unique to New Orleans. Our presentation will also feature the architecture and culture of the 18th century. Guests will gain a deeper understanding of the city’s history, told thru the stories of the great men and women who have been laid to rest in this stunning Cemetery.
Remember, the cemetery is sacred hallowed ground, the final resting place of thousands of New Orleanians for over two centuries. It is also a very rare and fragile architectural site, still actively used for burials. Therefore, managed visitation is required to ensure the sustainability of this treasure for generations to come.
Cemetery Tour staff members will enforce the following Policies:
- No touching, sitting, or leaning on tombs, fences, or other structures.
- Marking or rubbing on tombs is prohibited.
- Vandalism and theft are illegal and will be prosecuted.
- Deposit of any items on tombs or in the cemetery is prohibited (such as candles, beans, coins, shells, rocks, figures, pictures, images, etc.).
- No eating in the cemetery - water bottles with lids are encouraged.
No guests are permitted to enter unaccompanied; Tour groups will follow a designated route. Guests are required to accompany the Tour Guide from beginning to end and may not veer off the tour path.
