Bellagio Gallery of Fine Arts
Over a decade ago, uncatalogued boxes containing 30 animal mummies were rediscovered in the Egyptian collection storage vaults of the Brooklyn Museum. Today, this mysterious facet of Ancient Egyptian culture is revealed in Bellagio Gallery of Fine Art’s newest exhibition, Soulful Creatures: Animal Mummies in Ancient Egypt.
In partnership with the Brooklyn Museum, the exhibition features nearly 100 authentic artifacts including animal mummies, CT scans and x-rays, ancient Egyptian art, and artifacts related to their ritual significance. Soulful Creatures explores dynamic insights into the origins, techniques, and rituals of animal mummification, providing many provocative theories to explain these ancient practices.
Soulful Creatures: Animal Mummies in Ancient Egypt is organized by Yekaterina Barbash, Curator of Egyptian, Classical, and Ancient Near Eastern Art, and Edward Bleiberg, Curator Emeritus, Brooklyn Museum.
